PART 1 ASSESSMENT

PART 1 ASSESSMENT

Evidence of a developing exhibition plan…

As I said in my previous post, these are unusual times with no clear knowledge of when a physical exhibition space with visitors will be appropriate to consider. I imagine also that the usual exhibition spaces, once open and operative, will have a backlog from an abandoned schedule to fulfil.

So my thoughts have been focused on investigating different spaces which would be appropriate for my work and which would support the direction my work is going in. The focus on ‘listening’ means for me that I need to find a space which the process of ‘listening’ can be encouraged. So this requires a ‘sound’ dimension to the exhibition.

  • There are many online platforms which are already set up to show artwork. They are mostly selling sites. I’ve looked at some of these but am not drawn to the strongly and overtly commercial focus.
  • In regard to a physical space, my garden is a possibility. There are drawbacks in regard to parking etc but these could be overcome. Because the garden has been the source and inspiration for the work during lockdown, there is every reason to consider this seriously.

  • At the moment, I’m creating an Art Programme aimed at children or whoever, called ‘Are you Listening?” This features art work from the whole of my 12 years study with the OCA and is aimed at the reader gaining a greater understanding of what it means to listen to the natural world and then create artwork. I’m very excited with this work because it draws on my experience as an educator. I was first given the idea when my daughter who is a teacher, was explaining the need for using Power Point to send lessons home to children during the school closures. It seemed that I could use my experience and the present study to assist with home schooling. I have produced more than a dozen pages of the Power Point which I will send separately to the tutor to see.
  • This programme could also be the basis for a book which I’m interested in pursuing.
  • I am also in conversation with the Director of the Ethernet Orchestra for a possible live ‘performance’ with the orchestra whereby I would be painting while listening to the musicians improvising. This could be a two way process whereby the musicians are responding to what I am painting. This idea would be exhibiting the focus of my work on ‘listening’ and ‘sound’ and less on the specific soundscape of the garden.

These are just a few of the possible ideas for the final exhibition
